Present Perfect and Past Simple Compared: Newer info vs older info

Well, if it makes sense, I just wanted to mention a not-so-strict-to-follow rule. We tend to use Present Perfect with newer information and Past Simple with older information:

Last year we went to Argentina and this year we have been to Morocco.

Of course, we can explain this sentence from many points of view. However, since I’ve started comparing the two tenses, let me give you this rule too. But just remember it’s just an approximate rule. You don’t really have to rely on it fully. It’s just for the purpose of collecting all the rules together in one course.
